We all need to relax sometimes – ideas for days off

Taking days off from studying is often needed. You can’t go at 100% all the time and not burn out or get dangerously close to it. Every now and again a day of not studying is ideal.

I know that when I was in the middle of all of my essays being due for the past few years I’ve felt guilty about taking days off to relax. I had this idea that I would have to be doing something every day or I wasn’t good enough and wouldn’t get things done on time which is ridiculous now looking back at it. I needed those days off to clear my head from all of the stresses that had been building up, to be able to take a step back and really look at my essays and know what I needed to work on.

So, here’s a few ideas for things you can do on these non-study days:

  1. Netflix (or any other streaming service) and watch a new TV show. Find something different, make a day of it with friends or on your own. Get in snacks and blankets and close the curtains.

  2. Build a pillow / blanket fort. Enjoy. You are never too old for these, and it makes a great reading den or writing den if you like to work on creative things.

  3. Play games. I have a post coming up on Thursday (special two posts in a week, week this week) about my favourite Room Escape Games and other puzzle games that I love to use to relax.

  4. Get those paints out and make something. Paint with your fingers or your feet. Do those Art Attack things you wanted to do when you were younger but didn’t.

  5. Play music with that guitar or piano or ukulele sitting in the corner of your room gathering dust. Learn a new song or just jam

  6. Go out for a wander and take photos of the place you live in now. Make a scrapbook of the things you like about it – the way the lights reflect on the water in the park or the colour of the leaves on the ground…

  7. Ready! Get set! Bake! – make something, decorate it and pretend you’re making a Bake Off worthy showstopper (even if you don’t get it exactly right)

  8. Make a self care box. Put in things like bath bombs, CDs (I still have mixes on some that I refuse to get rid of), little positive messages to yourself

  9. Use a self care box

  10. Get some friends together, go somewhere new. Or to the park and bring a picnic, a music player and a blanket.
