This week’s post is focused not only on apps for productivity but generally good apps for students to have. Apps for saving money, for tracking things and just generally nice ones to have.
1 – Costa
It seems to be a stereotype that students will live on coffee during university, and that’s not entirely wrong. I don’t drink much coffee, I prefer flavoured teas, but I am a massive fan of Costa Coffee. Instead of just spending £3.50 on a chai tea each day, I now spend that money and get points in return. I save up the points, and before long all of these points add up. Last year during a bit of a rough trip I ended up in the Costa at the train station and could get a drink and toastie for free with those points. It’s not much but it’s worth it.
2 – Spotify
I love my music, I’m almost always listening to something on Spotify because of it. I have one of the premium plans because I love having music to listen to when I’m travelling places, or when I’m sat in the house studying, or when I’m sewing … and so on. You can also listen to podcasts on Spotify which I would highly recommend, there’s some really great, creative ones out there.
3 – Your local bus/ public transport app
I have mine on my phone and it has been a life saver. If I’m needing to find my way somewhere new, check the timetable, or get updates on disruptions then I can easily do all of that through the one app. It has made travelling so much easier.
4 – Just Eat
While it is good to cook, and I highly recommend doing so instead of living on microwave meals and take out, Just Eat has it’s benefits. Friends coming over? You don’t have to worry about making food/ trying to find a local take away place for them. It’s all easily accessible through this app. It also comes in useful for days when you’re not well and cannot be bothered to cook.
5 – Goodreads
I’m a massive fan of reading and I not only use this to keep track of fiction books and stuff I’m reading in my free time but also track what I’m reading for uni. Everything I read goes on this and I organise it on bookshelves for each class.
6 – Duolingo
Admittedly, the Duolingo owl won’t be happy with me right now because I haven’t been on in a while to practice my Irish, but this is another great app for students. You can learn another lanugage for free, start practicing and it’s something that helps me to get that first little win of the day.
7 – SubCard
Similar to the Costa app. You get points when you go into Subway and order something. I’ve only just got the app and already I’ve saved enough to get a free 6 inch sub next time I’m in. This comes in useful for me since I work near a Subway and occasionally forget my lunch or fancy something a bit different/ warm on my lunch breaks.
8 – Puzzle Page
If you’re wanting something to do in your breaks/ while you’re travelling but don’t fancy just sitting listening to music or a podcast why not try some puzzle games? I found this app to be great for me, giving me a challenge every day and making me think in different ways to solve each puzzle.
9 – Offline Games
Depending on what sort of games you’re into you may want Sudoku, or slide games or Tetris. I’d highly recommend downloading a couple so that you can have some fun, chill out time on your phone between studying sessions or on the bus.
10 – Zombies Run
I recently talked about this in my last blog entry, but Zombies Run is a fun way to get moving. It’s made such a change for me when I’m walking places now and I actively want to walk more to find out more of the story.
