There’s little creatures who’s purpose in life is to tangle your headphone wires….

This is a bit of a different entry this week, inspired by every pair of headphones and earphones I’ve had having very tangled cables whenever I take them out of my bag.
Just like these headphone-creatures there’s ones who’s only purpose in life is to hide away that “safe space” where you put something down. It becomes invisible and they sprinkle a magic sort of dust where as you get near you think that you can’t possibly have put something in there to keep it safe. And we can’t forget about the clothes-wranglers. These are some of my favourites – they love to hide parts of your clothing. They see an opportunity and they pounce, dragging your jeans into a special other dimension, or stealing just that one sock from the pair. The last of these magical house beings that I want to talk about is the Leaders. They co-ordinate all of these things to happen at the worst times possible, then sit back and enjoy their handiwork. They make you run around and change things once your back is turned.
Okay, these creatures don’t exist. I just made them up on the spot but we all get the feeling sometimes that there might just be one of these lurking away in that cupboard, or chasing you around to cause a little bit of mayhem. And that’s okay. Sometimes these things creep up on you.
For me these last few weeks I’ve had jeans go missing when I’ve not taken them out of my suitcase, I’ve had headphones tangled together and couldn’t separate them (they’re hiding away in the drawer in the hopes that one of those creatures changes its mind and untangles them for me), and I’ve had the realisation that preparing to move is a lot more stressful than I first thought it would be
I’ve got bags, books and clothes everywhere as I sort out what I’m taking but also try to keep going with things here. I look around and I’m seeing mess and clutter and wondering how all of this will condense and go with me to my new place. I’m seeing things from drawers I’ve not even thought about in years but are one of the keepsakes I’m never going to get rid of.
And I think in part it’s these creatures telling me thank you, for being so hilarious when I get annoyed and run around because I know that sock was there somewhere.
It’s okay to fall victim to them every now and again, but what matters is that you keep going. Keep your head up and they’ll learn when to give you a bit of a break.
