Personal Life Happens Sometimes, And That’s Okay

So, I haven’t been around for a couple of weeks for a few reasons. I meant to set up some things in to be scheduled but then life took over a bit and I’m only just now settling back down.
The big exciting news is that I got engaged while I was away – in a sort of half-surprise my partner proposed and I said yes! It was an amazing day, surrounded by friends and the public and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it for the world.
Then university crept back up on me and I realised that those deadlines are getting closer but before I could think about them I started having to think about the things I’d neglected in the run up to going away. Tidying my room, sorting out appointments that needed to be made, that sort of thing. Which has taken me until now to actually get through.

Sometimes things like this happen and it’s okay for a few weeks when everything gets hectic and you don’t know whether you’re coming or going to relax on certain things. I plan my uni work just so when things get mad I can take a break from that and focus on personal life things. You can’t always fully prepare ahead for every eventuality but you can try to take some of the pressure off.
I plan my essays as soon as I get the questions, I do a bit of research there and then and know if I get to the point I’m at now with a month left to do one that I’ve got some research started, some points ready to make and I just need to find time to write. That’s something I can do at any point in the day and I’m happy with that. For some other things I’m very reliant on Google Calendar and the fact I can colour code different activities – if I’ve not made an effort to spend some time with friends outside of class then I’ll plan a day out with someone, that’s usually what I need to relax back and not feel like I’m falling into a void of doing nothing but work and study.
The important thing is not to panic. You can always ask for help when things get too much, even if it’s just seeing if someone can go and get that book you reserved. Little things make all the difference.
