Introduction – because every blog needs one

Updated: Feb 23, 2021

I’ll begin with the things you already know if you read my About Me page. So, I’m Tara, and I’m an ex-English Literature Student. I’ve graduated from my Undergraduate Degree with a First and continued to study English at Masters level, graduating with a merit. My blog was originally created for me to post my experiences, keep a record of what I’m feeling at each stage of that degree and also share things that I’ve found helpful. Over time I migrated to talking about studying tips, app reviews and really focusing on sharing what I had found about productivity and organisation. It’s still student-focused, I’m looking at providing content for students to succeed.

I wanted to start a blog for a while but I wasn’t sure if there’d be anyone wanting to read it and I got to a point just before the summer break where I realised I didn’t mind if nobody read it; to keep a blog up for a year consistently would be an achievement and one that I wanted to have. I managed this and while there were difficult periods I found myself loving the simple act of sitting down and writing something for each week and having a documentation of that.

I fell in love with the Medieval and Renaissance literature while studying it during my Undergrad, from poems like ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’ to Doctor Faustus. I was hooked. I could talk for hours about the colours in the poems and the significance of the clothes the characters were meant to be wearing. Somewhere through all of that I also fell in love with the way that monsters were portrayed in literature and so my Undergrad dissertation was born, comparing Beauty and the Beast to A Song of Ice and Fire. I am always up for talking about anything relating to these books. Leave me a comment with something you enjoyed about them!

I continued with that theme during my Postgrad studies where I focused on werewolves throughout time, looking at one particular type of monster and how it had been perceived. I’m hoping to do my PhD going into even more depth but this time talking about the physical appearances of characters, how they relate to their morality and if something about this needs to improve in relation to representation.

So like I said, this blog was for my experiences doing all of that; showing the struggles- highs and lows- of the dissertation researching and writing process, little tips and things I’ve learned and content about organisation and productivity.

Posts go up every Tuesday at 3:30pm GMT. Follow me on here to never miss out.
