Good Things Jar

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Every year I do something which makes me smile by the end of it; I make a Good Things Jar.

A Good Things Jar is where you take pieces of paper and write on them whatever good thing has happened, fold it up and put it in that jar. It’s surprising how quickly these fill up! Then at the end of the year (I always do mine on New Years Eve) you open it up, take out all of the pieces of paper and see the good things that have happened to you throughout the last year.

It’s also a great way for when you’re feeling low and want something to cheer you up – you simply open that jar and have a look at all of the great things that have happened so far, and know there’s more to come.

For me it’s hard to believe 2018 is over. Last year I:

  1. Spent more time with my partner than I thought I’d be able to

  2. Said I love you to him

  3. Tried new things with my hair (wavy and rainbow hair)

  4. Graduated

  5. Got a first overall

  6. Started a MA

  7. Finally got Ravenclaw Pjs!

  8. Saw family I haven’t met up with in years

  9. Turned 21

  10. Travelled – Wales, Scotland, all around England, visited Ireland

  11. Left my old job

  12. Got a new job

  13. Made a dress

  14. Learned how to do embroidery

  15. Started doing escape rooms (and have beat all except 1 that I’ve done)

I’ve simplified my list to be able to post online, I had way more things in the jar than I would be able to share here but every little thing I wrote made me smile.

Red, Yellow, Green leaf themed Bullet Journal weekly spread

BuJo weekly Spread

If you don’t want to keep a jar / think you’ll forget to use it then I have another way for you to keep a ‘jar’. I’ve included a picture of one of my BuJo spreads above; in it I have sections for each day, for work times and pay notes, for miscellaneous notes / general tasks, projects but also for achievements. Instead of using an actual Good Things Jar you could make a section in the Journal for that, saving on bits of paper, a jar and space.
