Top 9 BuJo Hacks You Wish You Had Found Sooner

These are the top 9 Bullet Journal hacks I wished I had found sooner, and they are only ones I use and I use frequently. I wouldn’t like to speak about anything I don’t actually use on my own BuJo here as I wouldn’t like to say how it turns out. So, below are my top 9 hacks for improving your bujo-ing skills.
Dutch doors
See the pictures above for examples of what Dutch doors are. These are so useful and they were my go to for organisation in my last BuJo. Since then I’ve changed things up a bit but I may go back to using these very soon.
I use them by putting my daily tasks on the doors that I’ve separated into the 7 days of the week. So instead of a weekly spread it’s a weekly Dutch door. That way I can put a habit tracker, academic progress tracker, notes, and achievements on the non-door pages either side. It gives me a clear view of everything and it also has the bonus of (if done right) looking really cute.
Sticky Notes
I will admit that I don’t use these as much as some of the other hacks on this list since I don’t want to use them up too soon because I love the way they look so much, but, sticky notes! They’re great for adding colour, separating sections and more.
I’m not a fan of the neon post its but these ones that a friend of mine got me are actually my favourites – they look really good on some of the less flashy spreads I’ve done.
Index / colour code
I choose to do this somewhere near the back of my BuJo rather than the front since it’s easier to add pages if you need to while indexing.
Each section has a part of the page coloured (shown on the edges here), and they correspond to the line that the item on the index page is on. I also write page numbers because I’m really bad at getting lines right but I’m keeping going with this because I really like that idea.
Future Log (list months method)
With this BuJo set up I find it so much simpler. I hadn’t found any future logs that I liked enough to use before but since I started using this I haven’t looked back. You simply put a cross in the month column and then by the side write the event and specific date. So it doesn’t have to be in chronological order and you don’t forget things because you overlooked the month while searching through the log.
Make a bookmark if you don’t have one already
I love this idea! Get an old envelope and cut a corner out of it. Then use some washi tape to make it look a bit nicer and there you go! Simple bookmark in two steps!
Fold out key
Just in case you forget what signifiers you use or get confused when you look back at it. There’s not much more to say about these but they are very useful, especially if you’re starting out or changing things up with your BuJo
Washi tape can be used for anything
Made a mistake? Washi Need a cool looking header? Washi Want to make a bookmark? Washi Want a border for your page? Washi It can be used for anything and everything. It’s so versatile and once you start using it you won’t want to go back
Test page at the back
Any time you want to test out a new lettering style or colour or pen or spread style use a page at the back (or middle if you prefer!) of your bujo. Then you always have a collection to refer to. I actually have about 4 of these at the back, one for lettering, one for monthly spreads, one for weekly spreads and one for little doodles. It’s a great way to keep yourself inspired when you don’t feel like it.
Cut out a triangle at the bottom of the page for ones you turn to frequently (life in pixels etc)
This lets you find pages so quickly and isn’t something I would have thought of doing but saw on instagram somewhere as I was scrolling past quickly. Now I use it for some of my frequent pages – or I did before I lost my BuJo, I’m just getting the new one set up and trying to bring across things I remember from the old one and haven’t got around to this in that new BuJo yet.
