Hey! Tara here and thanks for checking out my blog. I update every Tuesday with posts about studying tips, advice and talk about productivity and organisation too. I’m also going to be sharing my language learning journey. If you want to keep up to date with my latest blog posts I’d love it if you subscribed to this blog.
I make it no secret that I follow many blogs on taking care of your home, on organisational skills, productivity and bullet journaling. All of those things have come together now that I’m taking charge of my new living space and putting these things that I’ve learned into practice.
One of the ideas that really stood out to me was the Family Command Centre. It’s something to organise your home a little bit better, and below I’m going to share a couple of pictures of other people’s (since I haven’t actually set mine up yet) and make a list of things you can include in one.

That blog post linked in the first image is something which really helped me get into the swing of things. I sat down with my Fiance, explained the concept to him and showed him a few photos and talked with him about how we could build our own.
So when we started decorating we went to The Range and bought a thing to organise our papers, we bought things for our keys and everything else we could do with what we already had which was pretty neat. We changed the whiteboard for a tablet that can cycle through needed information and be used to keep track of chores we need to do and also have our groceries list available on it as well. We’ve got some post it notes instead of a notepad so we can stick things all around the house (read that as I can write silly jokes and leave them for him to find later).
How do I make one for myself?
First things first you’re going to want to decide on an area to put your Command Centre in. For me, the hallway is the perfect spot as you can put your keys there when you’re coming home at night and check what’s planned before you leave for the day.
Then once you’ve got the place decide what you’re wanting to use it for. I like the idea of having somewhere to put my keys, but also somewhere to be able to keep a chore tracker and display information that isn’t just in my BuJo. That it’s accessable by everyone living in the space. Decide what will work for you in the space that you have. Browse Pinterest for ideas on what you can create!
If you’ve got a whiteboard then section it off before you put it up, it’ll make life so much easier. Decide where everything is going to go, how you want the thing to look. Then …. go for it! Put everything up on your wall and take a step back, realise that something is slightly off centre, swear, go make a cup of tea and come back to it to fix it in half an hour.
What can I put in it?
Whiteboard / Calendar
Meal Planner
Chore tracker
Habit tracker
Notepad
Basket for stationary
Place to hold letters / documents
Key holder
Positive message / inspirational quote
It seems cool and all, but why bother?
Simply put it makes you feel more organised. And that’s the trick into actually being organised and putting what you’ve been reading on blogs like this one into practice.
If you’ve been looking at things like this and trying to get a handle on life, or to be able to remember when your partner is out at work or when the kid’s school events are then this is a perfect, customisable system for that. If you don’t want to include something then don’t, if you want to change something up then go right ahead.
We’re more tech minded, hence the tablet, but that’s also a great way of saving space. Little things like this I haven’t seen in many other family command centres but it proves it’s all about what you want and need.
